Speaking events are a great way to build your confidence, cement your knowledge and expertise to others, connect, network and in some cases co- speak and collaborate with other like-minded business professionals. It also gives you the opportunity to shine and demonstrate your point of difference.
Speak from a place of knowledge and power. Show that you know what you’re talking about, and answer questions in the best way you know how. The important thing is to remain open to feedback and always choose topics that are relevant to your audience and current. If this is one of your weaknesses, add this to your personal development to do list, the more you speak the better you become. There will become a point where you are so passionate about what it is that you do, it becomes second nature.
Host your own training days, or workshops either within your workplace or external locations. Research what external events you can be involved with and offer to be a Guest Speaker (in order to do this, you need to prove to them you are an expert in what you do). This will network your business and again hold you in high regard.
Start small, and keep building. You may not land high quality speaking engagements straight off the bat, but if you keep swinging, you’ll build your following and get invited to speak at bigger, more notable events and conferences.
Buckle down and offer the greatest amount of value you possibly can everywhere you go. I am a big believer in that the more you put yourself out there, it will eventually pay off and come back with double the reward.
